is there any white flowers which are like that?or is it all flowers have this "ability" to do it?if so,please name a few of them (3 to 5).and state whether they are cheap or expensive and whether they are easy to be found in Singapore.

    Thank you very much! :)

Does anybody noe a flower which is like celery?if you put a stalk of celery in a blue liquid,it will turn blue
Any white flower should do this. It is simply the water being taken into the flowers vascular system.

    Try:

    Carnation

    Rose

Daisy - haven't tried this one myself.
Reply:Sea grapes and Durian flowers are white and might take up color if put in water with a stong concentration of food coloring. Chinese Crepe Myrtle is pink, but you could try putting it in laundry bluing to see if you could make it turn purple. Golden Penda blooms are yellow, but if you put them in bluing or red food coloring to see what happens. In the US I've always used Queen Anne's Lace (wild carrot) to do this, as it grows wild everywhere and takes up color easily. It might grow where you live, but I can't find any references.
Reply:White Frangipani,Hibiscus, costas,Bangkok rose, these are all edible and should be everywhere in the tropics.I cant help you on price though. A walk around your fantastic and famous gardens should help alot I would think..
Reply:Carnations do that. They are inexpensive in America. I don't know about Singapore.

    Blue liquids?
I don't know if this will work or not,

but I think i remember when i was younger, my brother tried food colouring to change the white rose to a blue one.

Like I said, I'm not positive about the results though.

Silicate of aluminum will also work and is much safer.

In Harvest Moon on GBA friends of mineral town how can i buy a flower vase and the blue feather ?

you don't need to do anything to buy a flower vase. one day, won, the salesman who lives with zack on the beach, will come to your house in the morning (right when you come out) and will offer you the flower vase. its ok if you say no the first time, he will come by again next season. and to buy a blue feather, you need to have a girl with a reddish/pinkish heart. once they reach that heart level, you can buy the blue feather in the supermarket.

In Harvest Moon on GBA friends of mineral town how can i buy a flower vase and the blue feather ?
I think (but check anyway) that Won the salesman will come to your house and offer you a vase (the same guy who lives on the beach and sells funny apples) %26amp; to buy a blue feather you need to have fulfilled certain criteria, such as having the right sized house %26amp; a sufficant affection rating with the (a) ladies.

What time of year would be best to have a wedding if your colors are midnight blue & silver?

I've got most of the big things picked out. Dresses ~ spaghetti straps

    Flowers ~ white lillies

Colors ~ midnight blue %26amp; sliver

I just can't pick a day. I'm hoping that if I can get a time of year or season, I'll be able to pick a date.

What time of year would be best to have a wedding if your colors are midnight blue %26amp; silver?
September would be an appropriate month for those colors...afterall...September's stone is sapphire...

But that color scheme would also work very well for winter ...especially w/using silver...it could be made to look very "icey" and elegant.

I'm getting married this Sept and I orig. planned on using a dark indigo blue myself...but since we're planning both wedding and reception for outdoors at my parents farm in the orchard yard, we've dedided on cranberry. But I still love the blue/silver combo!
Reply:This colors are beautiful during the fall %26amp; winter months.
Reply:The color of the dresses doesn't have to do anything with the season. You pick the colors because you like them, which is what you have done. So any time of year would be fine for those colors.
Reply:I would say a date in February would be nice...at night as well. November and December are too close to Christmas, and January everyone is recovering financially, so February is a great month.
    Reply:Winter
Reply:It would look really pretty somewhere between fall and winter. Their really pretty colors by the way!
Reply:Close to Christmas or New Years. The colours would be awesome for that time of year.

However, you have the colours you like at any time of year.Go with your choices no matter what. It's your wedding.
Reply:I was thinking about having my wedding in December, before Christmas and using those colours. its a beautiful winter combo. I remember my high school winter ball was done up in those colours and the theme was Mignight under the mistletoe and it was gorgeous because its not Christmas colours, but makes a great winter wedding. I ended up getting married in March instead though and used silver and pink.
Reply:Anytime you like, your colors sound beautiful. have you considered an evening ceremony? Your colors would go great with an evening ceremony.
Reply:Any day and any time of the year. Those colors can be worn anytime. The speghetti straps do suggest spring/summer, but not necessarily.
Reply:im thinking winter would be nice with those colors but with spgetti straps i dont know if i would do that in winter.... soo maybe spring
Reply:I think it would be OK any season, it would just have to be at night.

Kind of reminds me of winter though.
Reply:Those are the colors for my wedding too, and I am having it December 16, 2007. Those are good colors for a late fall or a winter. But honestly, you shouldn't base the date of your wedding on your colors. Those colors would be good for an evening wedding any time of the year. Just give yourself enough time to plan and get ready for the wedding. Congratulations and good luck!
Reply:If you like snow, December would be nice. The colors would match nicely. Just make sure the place is heated!! Maybe New Years. =P
Reply:maybe early fall or around christmas.
Reply:that sounds like it would be great late fall in to winter

    maybe early december.

it would be great to get pics done against a first snow fall back drop!

    congrats!
Reply:I'd say September or October, with spaghetti straps and the colors...

Hmmm...get married on a date that's "Once in a blue moon"....because you're only getting married once, and you've got midnight blue and silver...like the sky and the moon. :)

Wish you my best! The colors sound so pretty! :)
Reply:Colder season like Fall or Winter.

Really though you don't have to match colors to the season unless you really want to. Avoid holidays like New Years. Places are booked up fast and there is lots of business to go around so prices are higher. If you can catch them in the off season, say Janurary you can have a much more extravagant wedding for the same price tag.
    Reply:I'm thinking January --
Reply:If you like the colors, anytime! Those colors are especially nice for winter. Check though to see when the lillies are in season and available from a florist. Spaghetti straps might be chilly in the winter though w/o a wrap.
Reply:a blue and silver winter. that would be really pretty also with the white lillies.
Reply:I have done 2 midnight blue one with silver, and one with white, both were Winter Weddings. And both turned out lovely. Best Wishes.

  • Wallpaper border matching to paint?

I just painted my laundry room a light olive/lime green color. I'm putting a border along the middle of the wall, and the border wallpaper color is exactly the same as the paint color, with some light blue flowers and light olive/lime green leaves. My friend told me that the border should be darker than the paint color. Is she right. I was surprised to get an identical match on the paint and the wallpaper border.

    Wallpaper border matching to paint?
It really depends on the look that you are going for. You picked the color for the laundry room because you obviously like it. As far as the border...it is typically a little lighter or darker then the actual wall color. You said the border has some light blue flowers on it. It doesn't sound like the design you chose is super bold or colorful which to me sounds like you were subconsciously going for something soft and subtle. I am sure it looks great. Additionally, the matching paper and paint will not break up the wall as much as a contrasting border. This will result in the room looking bigger. Most laundry rooms are not super spacious so why make it look smaller then it is.
Reply:Well, very good eye! Yes the border should be different either lighter or darker. You don't want the same color, because at that rate you can just paint over it and save yourself the time. Good luck with your laundry room!
Reply:I think you should stick with the border you bought if you like it. There really are no hard and fast rules anymore in the decorating world. If it makes you happy, it's your laundry room!

What are some inexpensive wedding flowers?

I'm not sure about my colors yet but it will either be pink(either bright or pale) and white, or baby blue and white

What are some inexpensive wedding flowers?
    try buying your flowers wholesale!

you can get packages online from floral retailers, and even costco.com has wedding packages. inexpensive and convenient!
Reply:Roses, actually, are among the cheapest. This is because florists can buy them in bulk. The more roses you have in the arrangements, the cheaper they'll be per flower. Carnations are also inexpensive, and come in the widest variety of colors. They look very nice when combined with roses.
Reply:if you go to your local wedding dress shop they should have some numbers for local florests, and do artificial flowers rather than alive ones, they are cheeper and last forever!!!

    Good luck!
Reply:Carnations are a good choice and can be sprayed or dipped or even grown in the colors you choose. They are a good sturdy flowers and are relatively inexpensive and easy to find most anytime of year. Congrats.
    Reply:roses, stock, tulips, carnations
Reply:I've seen people bundle carnations together, which then look like big, lush peonies.

Have you considered doing some in silk?
Reply:Avoid buying SILK or FAUX flowers for your wedding. REAL Brides that wear REAL engagement rings do not carry faux flowers.

The least expensive flowers are "what is in season for that time of the year" . . also known as "seasonal flowers."

For example: tulips and daffodils in the springtime . . sunflowers in August and September . . and mums in the fall.

Carnations are inexpensive . . always available . . and there are many colors to choose from.

Reply:First you need to pick flowers that are in season during your wedding. Also try and not get married near any major holiday like mothers day or valentines day, this drives up the cost of flowers.

Buy in bulk, the more you buy the less it will cost you.
Reply:Believe it or not - roses! You can get 2 dozen red roses for about $30 if it isn't Valentine's Day, tie them into a hand-tie with ribbon and viola - bouquet!

Carnations are also very affordable but can look tacky if you aren't careful. The best combinations usually include carnations and roses with one or two more elegant flowers: for example, a rose and carnation bouquet with two large orchids is absolutely lovely! Another one that I saw recently was a hand tie that had about 8 pink roses in the center with a row of carnations around the edge, and the stems were tied with a pink ribbon accented with little rhinestone pins. Affordable and gorgeous!
Reply:Hydrangeas are beautiful and they come in...bulk? I can't think of a word to describe it, but you get a lot of bang for your buck.
Reply:All of my wedding flowers will be silk. They are cheaper!!!!!
Reply:If you want fresh flowers, go for whatever is in season. If you need flowers at the church, see if there is a wedding scheduled before yours. You may be able to split the cost.

Many of the silk flowers are very pretty. You can buy them at craft stores very inexpensively if you get them on sale, or use the store coupon. They come individually, and also as bouquets. Maybe you'll find something you like.

Should I wear a milky pink or a baby blue dress to prom?

For my milky pink tube top dress, it looks somewhat plain, but it gives off this elegant look to it. Right under my chest, there will be some beads there, and from there, there is another layer, that goes up and wrap around my neck, turning it into a scarf.

Or...my baby blue tube top dress that gives off a princessy feel to it. It has two flowers attached to a thin strap that leads to a choker on my neck. The flowers are on the left side of the body. And on the top half, it has lines going across like this....

    ____. _____.______

    ____. _____.______

    ____. _____.______

____. _____.______ from the top to bottom with sparkly beads on it. ON the bottom half, its plain except there are flowers spread out here and there.

I love both dresses, and still can't figure out which to wear.

And I dont know what kind of jewelry to wear with the dresses. Also, since both dresses are light-colored, is eyeliner necessary?

Should I wear a milky pink or a baby blue dress to prom?
you describe the dresses thoroughly enough, but what about you? are you pale or tan? blonde or brunette? eye color? these things play a big role in the right color for you to wear.

but if judging solely from the dress description, i would say go with the blue. the ruching that you talk about on the top half usually looks flattering on any body type, and it sounds a lot more formal than your pink one - personally, i think it's a little plain...you want to stand out at prom!

as for jewelry, since the blue one already has something around the neck, simply go for big earrings, added with either a bracelet OR a ring (please not both, dont overdo). and i'd recommend hair up so it won't cover up the flower choker.
Reply:you should wear the baby blue dress cuz it gives of this reely

%26lt;princesssy feel%26gt; and its prom ppl so get jazzy and i dont thin u shud wear eyeliner cuz it looks better with hard cloz

and wear stuff that matches ur dress like...figure this out urself
Reply:baby blue its always a prom favorite milky pink is more for a formal, and wear a choker with ur tube top dress it makes u look more sexy and yes!! use eyeliner, with nice frosty eyeshadow color. and make sure its very black eyeliner and on the bottom eyelid use a nice blue eyeliner it will bring out ur eyes even more
Reply:which colour looks better on your skin? we are all either a spring, summer, Autumn or winter and different colours either enhance or make us look worse. some colours will hide little imperfections on your face while others will make them more obvious. you will want the photos to look good aswell. so take a photo of yourself in both dresses in the same light. you might find that one looks better. if you have blue eyes the blue dress might make them look brighter, but maybe if you have fair skin the pink will make you look bronzed. just experiment. best of luck. hope you enjoy the night xo
Reply:the pink and if you are going to get pictures you will need eyeliner.
Reply:The blue one sounds very suitable for a prom , because you are suppose to feel special and like a princess. I personally would go with the blue the pink sounds good if you are going on a date or out for tea.

    Nikki
Reply:Do you have a date? That would be one thing to consider helping to make your decision. Depending on what color shirt your date is wearing and how that will match?

If you don't have a date, then I would next decide by what accessories (necklaces, shoes, bracelets, etc.) you have for each dress? If you have some cute accessories for one, but not the other that could help you decide.

Also, which one is more comfortable to dance in? If you plan on dancing, or sitting, or both you may want to choose the dress that best accomodates your activities for that evening. You don't want to rip your dress from dancing too much (happened to me at prom!).

Another thing you might consider, if you have a digital camera; take pictures of you in each dress. Then you can really see what they look like from the camera's point of view.

Just some suggestions. Hope these help!
Reply:I'd go with the baby blue one. That sounds so cool!
Reply:i like the way the pink one sounds, and as for makeup, i think a little eyeliner wont, hurt. definately a light pink eyeshadow and a good mascara. For jewelry i suggest a silver necklace, and maybe a pair of dangling earings. What color heels are u wearing?

There is also a pretty little plant called sedum, pink tiny packs tops.

This layering succeeds when my gardens mature and take on a character of there own and begin morphing into something new and unexpected each year with little intervention on my part. How can I help to restore our family's frost bitten plants on the Central Coast of California?

We have many landscape plants that show heavy frost damage from several long nights of frost. Just some of these include:

Several blue flowering potatoe bushes where all the leaves have wilted and turned brown.... (plants were about 3 or 4 years old)...

Several tall 20 ft "cherry" bushs that have all turned completely brown from frost. These are not real cherrys but just those little cherries that the birds eat. These are very tall thin plants. I don't know the real name for them.

Plus we have many bouganvalias that have also lost every leaf due to frost.

Finally my concern includes a beautiful 5 year old ficus tree that has really been the crown jewl of our landscaping. This tree has had every leaf turn completely brown and become wilted (except for just 3 leaves on the underside of the tree)...

Can I dare to hope that our landscaping and plants will revive themselves - somehow? What should I do to help them?

I greatly appreciate any help that you can provide

How can I help to restore our family's frost bitten plants on the Central Coast of California?
Go to your close's store and buy a few bottles of Fungicide and go to work. I grow plants for a nursery in Atlanta, we lost our heat in our begonia house, everything melted. The fungicide will protect you plants from bacteria and help to repair the damaged cell walls of you plants. Probably want be able to tell about cutting any thing back until the beginning of warm weather and then the new growth will sprout, cut off any branch or stem that doen not have new green growth. The key to keeping your plants alive, is whether or not the roots died during the cold snap. Your smaller plants with shallow root may of suffered the most, but your trees should recover and live to tell about it. Chin up and be patient. Happy Growing!!!!!!
Reply:It's best to leave them alone for now. Look forward to how happy you will be when some of them recover by themselves.

The now dead stuff gives the plants a tiny bit of protection against any cold spells that may yet come up.

What soil conditions does the plant"Ceanothus Thyrsiflorus Repens"prefer and what type of soil do I use.
    http://www.laspilitas.com/plants/225.htm

    Check out the above link
Reply:Yes, the browning at the tips is due to overwatering, or standing in water (continually wet soil). According to the Sunset Western Gardening book, these plants desire FULL sun and little to NO (additional) water. California Natives have adapted to this climate of ours. We have cool and wet winters, with dry and warm-hot summers. I worked at a Native Plant nursery for 2 years, and I have to say, our recommendation (which worked) was for buyers of new dry climate plants to water their plants about once a week or so during their first year (known as watering to "establish" the plants, mostly its root system). After that first year, lay off the additional waterings COMPLETELY, particularly for species that are more adapted to the chapparel areas (salvia, fremontadendron, ceanothus, etc). These are plants that are perfectly adapted to survive in this climate! There are some exceptions, and nothing beats good old intuition about knowing when to water a plant. Your plant should ideally have an Eastern or Southern exposure, preferably on a slight hillside to aid in drainage, and should only have been watered additionally for the first year after its planting. Otherwise, you are probably killing it with kindness. P.S. If you have other questions, call Yerba Buena Native Plant Nursery in Woodside, CA. They can talk to you over the phone about your problems with this and any other CA native plant.
Reply:Better to be planted in full sun, in well drained, well manured soil, give a liquid feed early spring to encourage new growth, after flowering lightly trim. Also only half hardy and can be burned by frost,(brown tips on leaves).

Are bees attracted to visual effects that look like flowers?
they are attracted to certain colors and smells
Reply:Yes, bees are quite visual and are attracted to images that resemble flowers. They generally find out pretty soon which objects are real flowers and which are not.

I don't know about your truck though; the decoration on it sounds rather large for a flower. But maybe they "think" it could be a cluster of flowers.

  • Is there an adverse effect of spraying flowers colors?

I am getting married and I would like to have blue roses mixed with my white calla lilies. By having the roses sprayed does it decrease the time that we have with the flowers so that they are still good? Is there another way to get royal blue roses?

Is there an adverse effect of spraying flowers colors?
I worked at a florist after high school. Numerous schools would order "painted" flowers for pageants and such. If one of the school colors was blue often they wanted blue tipped carnations or roses for the event. Most of the time we done the flowers a couple days in advance. I didn't notice them wilting any quicker than the non painted.

I would suggest that you just get the flowers tipped or dipped instead of the whole flower done though, just a spash of color. I think the whole flower blue would just be too much. I think white roses tipped in blue would look great!
Reply:They wilt faster, the colour runs - not a great idea.
Reply:yes, they will wilt a lot faster. i suggest getting anaturally blue flower to use instead of spraying them blue. the will be wilted byt he end of the day if you spray them .
Reply:Ask the florist about the dye and other flower alternatives. It could end up coming off onto your hands and dress- especially if it is hot. Good luck.
Reply:Get them a day or 2 before the wedding, and put blue food coloring in the water. Try this before hand, though. Get a few roses and put them in separate vases/glasses with varying amounts of dye.

How do I germinate and grow Japanese Flag Iris Seeds?

I have some Japanese Flag Iris in my pond, its a purple blue flower instead of the yellow. This year there are masses of huge seed pods, but no room in the pond for them all to grow.

Does anyone know how I can get them to germinate and grow on? Do the seeds need to be underwater, or in wet compost, or will they do if kept damp?

How do I germinate and grow Japanese Flag Iris Seeds?
hi we tried this in winter I think it was

get the seed s which are quite hard,

soak then or leave then in quite damp compost

leave them out on the cold / snow or freezer

and then wait about three months and

    they will be quite small

but you should see growing irises.

    good luck

I need help ladies and men with color coordination.?

I live in an apartment with all the walls painted white. I have an ivory couch with slate blue flowers on it and oak furniture. During cold weather I use garnet chenille slipcovers. Currently, my windows have white miniblinds provided by the landlords. What kind of window treatments would look coordinated with the couches the way they are and when I put the slipcovers on them???

I need help ladies and men with color coordination.?
Leave the blinds the way they are and hang curtain rods over them. Then get some sheer kind of curtains with accents in the color of the blue or garnet. Then change them out when you change the slip covers. You can also use the sheer curtains with a solid color full curtain in front. The solid color would match the blue and garnet, and you would change them out when changing the slipcovers.

I think curtains over blinds is a good look. I like the fact that the blinds block out the light. And, you could kind of swag the curtains out of the way (using ties a couple of feet below the top of the curtain) for that classic window curtain look. The curtains are then just an accent.
Reply:I would pick the ivory color because if the room is small light colors make the room alot better and bigger and in the winter time use the slate color because light on light(snow) doesn't look good but all I can tell you is that good luck on it :)

    Flower colors - blue? green?

For my wedding, I am having 4 bridesmaids, each of them in a different color. The colors are lavendar, light blue, celadon (think celery), and tea rose. I was hoping to match their bouquets to their dresses, but I don't know what flowers would work best with all those colors. I know blue and green are particularly hard to find. Ideas? Suggestions? Also, I'm on a tight budget, and I don't want to spend a lot of money. And if it makes a difference, I am getting married in a "backyard" kind of garden. And how can I incorporate those flowers into my own bouquet?

    Flower colors - blue? green?
Having them all in different colors is a great idea, but you want to tie them all together somehow. Having them all carry the same bouquet would be the perfect solution. Also, when you think of a bouquet, don't think it has to have a few dozens flowers. There are some very classy options, like 3 tall white callas tied together with ribbon - or 3 white gerbera daisies also tied together. Incorporating those into your bouquet would be much easier than 4 different colors of flowers.
Reply:Silk flowers are a good idea. Blue flowers, like mums and carnations are easy to find. Baby's breath will make an attractive bouquet.

I wouldn't use green flowers, although the stem leaves can fill in the arrangement nicely, and make it real.
Reply:Your florist can do this. Wildflower bouquets with a little of every color would be a good option. The florist can do the same with your bouquet, but bigger and better. Or, have them all carry a simple white flower, like daisies.
Reply:Work with your florist to find a mixed bouquet with each of the colours incorporated as well as white, yellow and greenery, then have each bouquet be the same for each bridesmaid. Then, you have a larger bouquet with the same flowers, with maybe a few differences, such as an orchid, more roses, a stargazer lily, for example.

Good for you for going with this idea! We had four colours for our wedding as well - pink, lilac, yellow, and light teal.
Reply:I know theyre very simple, but how about daisies? They are sweet flowers, something you might find growing wild. Even though they are white, I think it would work well.
Reply:I got married on a beach so each of my bridesmaids were in different shades of blue. I had them each carries white mini calla lillies and it looked great! Maybe you could do something like this with roses (I think they are a little cheaper) and the ribbon can match the dresses.

Another suggestion I have is to not have the lavender and light blue BM stand next to each other if it can be avoided. I remember shopping for the different shades of blue and lavender looked a lot like some blues. I think it would look better if you broke it up a little bit. :) Just my opinion.
Reply:Leann M is totally right, when I was reading, thats what totally came to mind for me. Hydranges come in light blues, greens, pinks, and purples. Not to menion white. You could have each bouquet match their dress, or have all the girls carry white ones and you could carry hygrangeas in all those colors, so its like an opposite effect. They are a very big flower, so 3 of them would make a plenty big bouquet for bridesmaids, and you could do 2 of each color to have a bigger one for you. You could maybe even tie in some white roses or something of that nature to give them a little contrast to the dresses. Hope it helps!

Reply:Hydrangeas, Hydrangeas, Hydrangeas.... you can also use roses as they come in green, somewhat blue tones, lavender and pinks... I sell wholesale flowers for the do it yourselfer if you are interested. I am a florist, so please do not hestitate to ask any questions you may have.

Hydrangeas and roses are also very cost effective... you can mix them with the roses in all colors in your bouquet, and let the bridesmaids mix roses and hydrangeas in there color. I will try to find you a picture if you would like.
Reply:Silk comes in any color and is much cheaper than real.
Reply:Just do a bouquet of Baby Breaths I saw one on line yesterday and they did a beautilful bow where it ties. You could do the bows with each shade of the dress and yours could be with white roses and all 4 color shades ribbon. baby breaths are really in expensive and if you bunch them up it would look gorgeous.
Reply:I know you want to match, but I think white Calla Lillie's for everyone is wonderful...thats what I did. For the bridesmaids, one for each of them. There so big, one is perfect. There usually about $8 per flower, so it's not that bad for cost if your only getting one for each person. Tie a matching ribbon for each dress on the stem. It will be simple yet elegant. Then for yourself, just have about 5 Calla Lillie's tied with each of the bridesmaids colors.

For the parents, grandparents etc. it's so much cheaper to go with a white rose for the corsages. For the groomsmen, get a single miniature Calla Lilly.
Reply:i would go with creamy color flowers. the blue and green will blend in 2 much because of all the colors on the dress. The original plain color creamy will stand out great. But For your flower bouquet add a little color so you will stand out a lot more than the bridesmaids. Is is your day

and congrats on the big day

What do you think of these "unusual" candle scents??

ok I have found these unusual candle fragrances and I'm wondering if I should include them in my candle making business.

Here's the descripton for each one:

Cowboy Blues - This manly scent will make the cowgirls swoon! A tall, dark, handsome cowboy in faded blue jeans walked by..... leaving notes of sweet tobacco and rugged leather in the air.

Sangria - Spanish punch traditionally made with red wine and fruits, very popular in Texas! This festive blend includes red wine, sugar and cinnamon, with notes of orange, apple, lemon and peach with a touch of ginger. It's a fiesta in a bottle!

Texas Bluebonnet - Our beloved state flower! Bluebonnets are beautiful blue flowers that grow wild in the fields of Texas. This delicate, fresh floral is the epitome of Spring!

And in case you're wondering, yes I am from Texas and would be selling these in Texas.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

What do you think of these "unusual" candle scents??
I am originally from Texas and I think all of these are really great ideas- very creative and not comonly seen.

I think if you market them well, you will sell them.

A lot of people buy candles because the scents remind them of childhood, of special times, people , etc. I think these are winners- I especially like the first one. I remember being around my uncle and always feeling safe and comfortable with the scent of sweet tobacco in the air.

I am in Washington and I sell candles (mine are a lot more frou frou) but I think (especially in the south where I was born and raised) there is a market for more wild and natural scents.

I hope all goes well for you- have fun and don't be afraid to be creative and try new things, no matter what people say or think- there are scents that when I hear the name I think ,"how could that be appealing?" but when I smell them it is completely the opposite of what I expected. I am sure oyu will do great. Make a bunch and find some specialty, tourist, gift shops and ask to put a few in there- scatter them as far as you can and I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

Mix them up with some creative "texas style" candle holders- use the unexpected and display them creatively with Texa pride- the more 'personality' you put into them the more unique and attractive they will be to the buyer!
Reply:sure if you can make them smell the way you want to
Reply:I don't think the first two would "catch on"- But your Texas Bluebonnet scent shows promise... Go back to your drawing board and do alittle tinkering. Maybe something with a "leather" scent (as in a horses saddle) or a creosote flavor (like the way the land smells during a long awaited rain). Keep up the good work- %26amp; I'll be keepin' an eye out for your candles! :)
Reply:Cowboy Blue- may sell sometimes in candles the name sells its self like for instance I make candles and "Butt Naked" sells really well people like the name plus it smells really nice and also to capture there attention I have a naked baby laying on his stomach on the label its catchy and gets everyone else's attention.

Texas Bluebonnet- Didn't do very well at all for me in fact I discontinued it as many of the floral scents usually don't do very well except White Jasmine, Lavender, Gardenia, Sweet Pea, Eucalyptus, Fig, and Roses.

Sometimes Candles smell so good and then I can't seem to understand why that particular smell or candle isn't selling very well and I have found by just changing the name of the candle to something more suiting or exotic people buy it. So if a candle doesn't sell well but you like the scent of it try changing the name or jazzing up the label or methods of marketing.
Reply:if you make a hundred I hope you have space to store the 99 that don't sell

Who else think the roses are red violets are blue poem is extremely smart?

I think it's such an ironic poem. The poet obviously took flowers, such as roses, and violets, and specifically named their colours despite what their name suggests. Since it is a love poem I think the traditional "sugar is sweet and so are you." suggests that the person being written about sounds tough but is really just a sweetheart.

    Violets- should be purple,

    Roses- should be pink.

Yard 14 is a vine with 3 leaves on each point, making sure not poisonous.

Yard 13 is a bamboo like bush, took pics before of them dead (hollow red stems in winter) just want to make sure they don't spread.

Yard 8 and 6, have no idea, weeds or poison oak/ivy?

Yard 5 is pretty little blue flowers

Yard 3 has huge (same size as hands) leaves and thick smooth stem, very tall growing in few spots in yard, typically shade.

Yard 12 very tall like Iris' (happens to be in their bed) maybe peony? just started to have bud a few days ago and now huge bud showing

Yard 9, 7, 4, 2, %26amp; 1 poison sumac?, growing all down one side of my fence

Last 3 are of a tree, I took a picture in January (last pic) and no one knew for sure, now it has leaves and these cute little 5 point purple flowers.

    Appreciate any help!

What are these plants/ trees/ flowers?
13 is an invasive non-native plant that should be removed and destroyed. It's non-poisonous.

5 looks like spiderwort - a native species to US, non-invasive and worth keeping around. I have it growing in my front yard. No problem with spreading.

8 looks like the invasive tree of heaven or black walnut.

Either a reclamation yard or save yourself a lot of wasted time and just get a whole new w.c. that matches the existing chinaware and suite as close as possible, or replace both the chinaware so at least the pair match. This will probably be cheaper and easier than trying to get a cistern lid on it's own.

However, I am unsure of what flowers would appropriately coordinate with my color scheme. I need to decide on flowers to use in centerpieces as well as bouquets. Any suggestions?

Suggestions of flowers for my upcoming wedding?
All white flowers can look really pretty. Roses, lillies, hydrangeas, carnations, mums, daisies, tulips, snap dragons...there are so many choices for white flowers! You can use different flowers in one color to add texture to arrangements.
    Reply:Here are a few options:

You can have light blue hydrangeas:

    Light blue delphinium (beautiful):

Navona lilies (had these at my wedding, gorgeous):

    White roses:

For a litte additional color since you shouldnt have too many variations of only two colors, there are these very pale pink peonies, soooo nice:

    http://thehotpotato.files.wordpress.com/...

Or also a pale pink tulip:

    http://z.about.com/d/pittsburgh/1/7/W/9/...

Or if you want a brighter color contrast (and this would look AMAZING with the black and silver highlights) you can have some pink dendrobium (aka orchids):

    http://houseonahill.net/flowers/wp-conte...

And if the brightness doesn't suit you, a white orchid would look nice as well and would stick out some beyond the other flowers and look quite nice:

If you want to go very simple yet elegant for centerpieces, theres this:

Anyway, I hope I helped :) My wedding colors were bright reds and purples (like jewel tones) and while those were the primary colors, my florist did an amazing job adding a few other colors here and there for some depth like some golden yellow (which i didnt think id like but he knew what he was doing!) and some hot pinks, etc. Just saying this cause you have a very beautiful palette for your wedding but you might be limited in flowers if you only look for white and blue ones. If thats what you want then thats ok too because you can still make beautiful arrangements with those two colors but added a little pink or purple here and there might be pretty nice too. Anyway, I hope I've helped! Good luck and congrats!!! :)

Reply:Try to stay with a variety of white flowers as much as possible. A nice creamy yellow would be a nice contrast, but just use it sparingly. Unfortunately there aren't many flowers in the silver/black area. You could also insert sprigs of rhinestones to add some interest.
    Reply:Hi and congratulations!

I like your color choices. I like the pool blue of the bridesmaids dress. I am assuming you will wear white and the guys are wearing a black tux with silver vest/ties? That is where the 4 colors come in?

My first suggestion for flowers is to look through bridal magazines and online for ideas. Take your ideas and go and meet with a florist. You can look through their books of previous weddings to get even more ideas and they can give you ideas too! That is their business! Give them a budget and they can work within your budget.

What I would suggest is a little different than what others have suggested. I would not go with a white flower or a pale blue for the girls....that would be too dull and would not stand out in pictures. You want something vibrant, but also something that will look nice against the pool blue dresses.

I would suggest something with blue in it...but not total blue...like this:

    http://weddings.theknot.com/gallery/gall...

OR...somehing with a little purple in it like this:

    http://weddings.theknot.com/gallery/gall...

This one would look nice for you:

    http://weddings.theknot.com/gallery/gall...

For the centerpieces...I agree with the other poster who posted a picture of a vase with blue hydrangeas. That would look real nice possibly on a mirror and then with some votives next to it.

Good luck and I hope I have given you some ideas.
Reply:I love the pool blue from David's it is one of my choices. I love orange so I was going to use orange flowers and peach against the pool, very pretty together. My tables at reception-we are doing a destination wedding-will be bud vases that will go in the center of the table with orange flowers, serving as centerpieces and favors all in one. Throw in some white flowers, maybe daisies. Good luck!
Reply:1. look through pics of bouquets on the knot and other sites and in magazines to get a feel for what you like - what kinds of flowers, what colors, size, shape, how big, lots of color or simple, lots of different flowers of just one or two, etc.

    2. take a pic of your dress, pic of the bridesmaids dress, a swatch of your color and pics of any bouquets you found that you like to a florist. share your ideas, see what your florist recommends (and get a price quote) to see what you both think will look nice and fit in your budget.

Or are there any pretty blue colored flowers that would be in season for an october wedding. Are hydrandras in season?

Can a gerbera daisy be dyed blue?
You can get hydrangeas, iris, delphinium, and a world of other blue flowers that should be in season. I wouldn't attemp dying gerberas. They are a very tempermental flower and are very difficult to tell if they are gonna last even if they haven't been altered. adding chemical dyes would most likely not be good for them, other flowers maybe, but prolly not gerberas. They make a spray paint that is specially made for tinting flowers. Your florist can get it. This would be far less harsh on the gerberas. Some florists refuse to do it, but many will if your paying!
Reply:Any flower can be dyed. I've seen blue dyed daisies at the grocery every spring/summer. As far I am aware, hydrangeas are the only naturally blue flowers. I don't know when they are in season though. The best thing to do is talk to a local florist about what you want.
Reply:you can dye almost any flower by adding blue dye to the water so that the flower "drinks" the water and the dye as well.
Reply:YES, THEY CAN AND CAN BE VERY PRETTY WHEN DONE RIGHT! I PUT IN A COUPLE WEB SITES THAT MIGHT HELP YOU! GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATS!
Reply:It can BUT be very aware that any dyed flower has the potential to "leak" the colour onto your beautiful wedding dress. My florist had people sign waivers after a girl in Winnipeg sued her florist over a wrecked dress.

i know that if u put blue food coloring in a vase overnight with just ready to bloom white flowers then when u wake up you will have blue flowers but how can i make them neon pink. i dont want the muted pink flowers that u can get in florist shops i want vibrant, neon pink flowers but i want them to be real flowers not fake. can i use the dye that u can mix with frosting to make it hot pink? i dont want to kill the flowers so nothing toxic like paint lol

and please dont tell me to spray paint them i think thats beyond tacky!!!

What can i use to make white flowers different colors?
I doubt that you can get a neon pink, but your best bet is a very concentrated solution of red or hot pink food dye (with just a little water), which is often the same dye used for coloring frosting. Give it a try!

I received some very pretty flowers. Can someone tell me what type they are?

They look a lot like freesia, but they're darker blue and have a little horn coming off of the back. They also don't have any scent that I can identify. (I'm not sure if this is because they were kept cold at the florist's or if it's natural). If there are any horticulturalists or gardeners who might be able to identify them with a picture or get me a website where I can find it myself, I'd really appreciate it- they're beautiful! All the sites I'm turning up don't have pictures that I can use to verify the descriptions. Thank you!

How is translated the german word kornblume into english? I have been given some seeds of this flower?
I think cornflower is right. German WIkipedia gives the latin as Centaurea Cyanus which are bachelor buttons. These border o being wildflowers. Check the picture at Martha Stewart Living to make sure it is the same. Cultivation and info below from MarthaStewart.com:

    Centaurea cyanus 'Blue Boy'

    Common name bachelors buttons, cornflower

    PLANT DESCRIPTION

Cornflowers are great plants for the cutting garden or flower border, and 'Blue Boy' is no exception. Bearing wonderful fluffy, light blue flowers on densely branched upright plants, this wildflower is well suited for cutting, drying, and pressing. Cornflowers are self-sowers that do best in cool weather.

    PROFILE

    Plant type annual

    Light full sun

    Height up to 3 ft.

Spread 6 in. to 12 in.

    Soil poor, well drained

    Soil pH slightly-acidic-to-neutral-pH6.5-7

    Soil moisture moist

    Bloom time summer

    Flower color blue

Bloom size 2 in. to 2 in.

    Foliage color medium-green

    FEATURES

    Attractive flowers

    Attracts butterflies

    Drought tolerant

    GARDEN USES

    Naturalizing

    Flower beds and borders

    OTHER USES

    Cutting or arrangements

Everlasting/Dried arrangements (use for drying and pressing)

    COMBINE WITH

other gray-green or silver plants like wormwood (Artemisia), Jerusalem sage (Phlomis), and lamb's ears (Stachys byzantina 'Silver Carpet').

    HOW TO SOW/PLANT

Direct sow in a sunny, well-drained site, after danger of frost has passed. In mild climates, sow in fall. Or start indoors 1/4 inch deep, 3?4 weeks before last frost. Space young plants at a distance equal to their mature spread. Successive sowings will produce continuous blooms.

    Days to germination: 7?14

    WATER AND FERTILIZE

Water moderately, allowing soil to dry between waterings (early morning watering is best). Do not overfertilize because this will lead to excessive leaf growth at the expense of blossoms.

    DO YOU KNOW?

This plant's common name, cornflower, refers to the fact that it was once typically found growing amid field-grain crops (generally referred to as corn) in Europe. Other plants named for their association with grain fields are corn-cockle (Agrostemma), corn poppy (Papaver rhoeas), and corn marigold (Chrysanthemum segetum).

    GENERAL MAINTENANCE

Deadhead spent blooms to encourage flowering but let some flowers mature for self-sowing.

    PESTS/DISEASES

Root rot, stem rot, and powdery mildew may occur.

    CONTROLS

Allow soil to dry between waterings or plant in well-drained soil to prevent rot. To discourage powdery mildew, increase air circulation, avoid wetting leaves when watering and remove diseased leaves.

    GARDEN HINT

Cornflowers bloom more when crowded. If started in hotter weather, plants will be shorter and have fewer flowers.

For men's boutinerre you need to go with a flower that is in your arrangement, Iris is a good one you can add that to yours and then a single iris would look great and masculine for the guys. Hope it helps, you can google blue flowers and pictures of these will come up. Congrats on your wedding.
Reply:Hi. You can't get dark blue roses. There are no blue roses. And if you can find some silk ones, they will REALLY look fake because there are no true blue roses.

Are you doing silks? Why not a red rose? That would look nice with the bridesmaids dresses as well as for the guys boutonnieres. For you...I would do a mix of ivory/white and some red roses.

If you are going with fresh flowers...simply visit a florist and tell them what you want and look through their books. They have pages and pages of weddings that they have done and they can recommend flowers that will look good with your dress as well as the bridesmaids dresses.

    Good luck!
Reply:I think blue flowers would be great, I had my bridesmaids all pick thier own flowers for their bouquets and the one who had carnations I think were the prettiest. Check out my myspace amylovescalvin and there is a pick of my wedding party. The only thing I have to say is DONT pick the same color flower as dress, they blend in and dont pop like a contrasting color would. That is my only regret from mine!
Reply:There really aren't that many natural blue flowers. You may have to talk to a florist that can tell you what flowers they can dye blue, ususally they can do that with most white flowers. The flowers with the pearl in the middle are stephanotis if that helps. There are some pretty blue hydrangeas you can get but I'm not sure if that's the shade you are looking for. Talk to a florist about dying them the way you want. Personally, it sounds like A LOT of blue to me, maybe mix in some ivory or champagne, that will lessen the cost.
Reply:Blue flowers aren't common in nature, but you might try irises, violets and dyed blue carnations. Painted daisies can be done in blue and some chrysanthemums as well. You might also try some deep purples with your blues. They'd go with your colors well and be a good accent. Plus they are easier to find. There are lots of lovely tulips in dark purples and lilacs come in deep purple as do irises. It sounds lovely.

  • Funeral Flowers/Plants ?

I am trying to figure out what kind of flowers/plants I should get for a funeral. It was for a stillborn baby boy. I was thinking along the lines of yellow or light blue colors flowering plant this way it won't die as fresh cut flowers do.

    Funeral Flowers/Plants ?
Hi! I think yellow and light blue sounds like nice colors. Actually anything pastel colored would be appropriate for a child. I would first make sure that the plant can be useful to them. The previous answerer is right that some people don't know to take their flowers and plants with them because I know a lot about florist business and they recycle what is unknowingly left behind and even 'resale' the same plants and usually reuse the fresh cut flowers in other sprays and arrangements. It's not right but they do it all the time.

Anyhow, I think the idea of a plant is very logical and thoughtful. Especially if it a beautiful flowering plant like mums or daisies because they are attractive in any place. I really feel for the parents, I can only imagine how devastated they must be.
    Reply:how awful for the family.

I think plants are nice, whethter flowering or not. They always have something to remember your thoughtfulness. Report It
Reply:That's what I would do. Yellow.
Reply:Its the thought that counts. Something yellow, that way it won't be obvious - blue for a boy. A plant would be nice - as long as the family knows enough to ask the funeral director to take it home. Sometimes they just toss them. Or they could be donated to a nursing home.

How do I make a complaint of a purchase I made. Flower Expo sent the wrong colors and flowers to a funeral?

I went to Flower Expo and ordered a bouquet for a funeral. I specified the colors I wanted and also the flowers even the ribbon to be placed on it. I asked for blue flowers and specified carnations white in color and the tips dyed blue with palms in the back ground. The owner showed me some flowers he had but I said no because they were not blue they were purple. He assured me he knew exactly what I would like and he would arrange them himself. When I paid for them I also paid delivery for this memorial gave the address to be delivered to got a reciept and left. Well to make my point I was so devestated when I got to the memorial the whole arrangement was with pink roses orange orchids and the flowers I told him were not blue. He refuses to give me a refund and says I should of took them back how many people do you know of that would carry away flowers meant for the dead and tell the family I HAD TO TAKE THEM BACK. Can someone breed certain plants to make a blue rose?
hmm not sure but I do know that if you take a white rose, leave it in blue water (which is made blue by putting blue food coloring in it) that the flower will pull the color up into its petals and be that color. But as far as making new flowers, botanists do it all the time so I'd encourage you to give it a try

To turn hydrangas blue, how much sulfer do I need to add to the soil?

It is a contained garden that is 12 feet long and 1 and a half feet wide and 1 foot deep. Will I kill my flowers if I add to much sulfer?

To turn hydrangas blue, how much sulfer do I need to add to the soil?
The color of hydrangeas will vary considerably due to the pH of the soil they are growing in. The blue hues are best in acid soil and the degree of blueness is controlled by the amount of available aluminum and the capacity of a particular variety to draw it up. The reds and pinks enjoy an alkaline or neutral soil where aluminum is not actively absorbed. The whites stay white but usually enjoy the same conditions as the reds and pinks.

To encourage "bluing" of the flowers, you need to raise the acidity of the soil. Acidity levels need to be around 5.5 - 6.0 on the pH scale. To lower the pH and increase the amount of aluminum in the soil, apply around the hydrangea aluminum sulfate several times at intervals in the spring and again in the fall if the desired color is not achieved. The amount of aluminum sulfate really depends on the concentration. You don’t want to over do it because aluminum is toxic in large doses.

Aluminum occurs naturally in most soil. If you can get the pH lower, the plant may absorb some on its own. Testing your soil for trace elements (including aluminum) is highly recommended. There are many tests available on the market for pH, too. Increase the pH of your soil by applying sulfur, rusty aluminum nails or pennies, citrus fruit peels, coffee grounds, evergreen tree needles or bark. Fertilize with a product that is very low in phosphate. Phosphate limits the absorption of aluminum.

For a powder form of aluminum sulfate, my general rule is ? cup per foot of hydrangea. This means that for an established 4-foot hydrangea, 1 cup of aluminum sulfate spread around the base of the plant should be adequate. This assumes a 15% concentration mixture of aluminum sulfate, the most commonly sold concentration. You may mix the aluminum sulfate in water and dissolve or apply straight to the plant then water in well. Be sure that the plant has established itself before application. We don’t recommend aluminum sulfate for new plants because of toxicity.

Apply in the early spring when you see the first leaf. Apply again six weeks later. If color isn’t as desired, add a fall application too.

To encourage pink to red blooms on plants in high acid soil, apply lime to the soil. The lime should be applied at the rate of one pound to every ten square feet of surface area once or twice a year until the desired bloom color is obtained. You may also use a fertilizer high in phosphate, as that will also limit the absorption of aluminum.

Note color correction takes some weeks or even months for the desirable changes to take affect. Some varieties will not get darker.
Reply:sulfur will only make the soil acidic.... what the plant needs is aluminum sulfate in order to turn blue..... without the aluminum there's no blue..... too much sulfur will make the soil TOO acidic for a lot of plants.... hydrangea, too.... this is a change that comes about slowly, over a year or two... dropping sulfur around the plant now will not make the flowers blue this year or next, either, probably..... so add alittle now and alittle later and so on, until the plant's soil is acidic and contains aluminum too.... don't forget to feed and water, too!.... and.... the only way to know if the soil is acidic enuff is to do a soil test...that will help a lot.....the test will give you an idea of how much sulfur is needed IF it's needed.....

I need ideas for a new flower bed around the front of my house?

I have a small house with a tree somewhat close up, to the right of the house (when looking from the street). My Peony is tucked in on the left end of the porch, but I have nothing along the front of the right end of the porch (shaded over by the tree). I have tiger lilies that run along the tree and down the right side of the house which are starting to spread down the side, but have only made it about a quarter of the way. I'd like to have something that would work well in the shady areas, but I don't really care for the popular plants like hostas and such, I like different things that aren't seen too often. I'd ideally like to get some colorful (red and yellow - my brother is a Marine - and beachy blues) flowers around the area. I also like plants that 'do something' (attracting butterflies, etc) so big flowers and things like that interest me. Oh, I'm in NW Ohio.

If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them. I'm totally open since I'm new at this. Thanks

The Bromo-caffeine bottles are very common. They were competitors of the Bromo Seltzer Company. It was a headache remedy. Orignially it was called "Broma". it was manufactured by the Keasbey %26amp; Mattison company in the 1890s.

Status: offline Hi! Welcome to the Bottle Forum!

Bromo Seltzer is a very common bottle. It was (and still is) a medicine for a bad stomach, although when it was first established in the late 1880s, the makers promised it would cure much more. Captain Isaac E. Emerson was a druggist in Baltimore at that time. The medicine contained potassium bromide, caffeine, and acetanilid (the last ingredient can be very dangerous if too much is taken).

Your bottle is from the era 1920-1960. The three "lips" are to lock the on the twist-on cap. My wife has cobalt bottles in most of the windows of our house - it's her favorite color - and Bromo Seltzer bottles account for a good number of them.

  • Passion flowers?

I have a BLUE passion flower with orange fruit/ %26amp; red seeds. Is there any way I can grow more plants from the seeds. I don't really want to try to move my existing plant, as I'm worried that may kill it. I would like another plant, on the other side of my garden

    Passion flowers?
You can take cuttings from passion flowers, I can't rememebr exactly how this is done though, garden centres are usually happy to give advice on things like that, I remember that we used to dip the cut stem into rooting powder and I think leave it in water to grow roots before transferring it to the desired location. You might want to keep it inside until spring now though, to prevent the frost getting it.
Reply:Wait until the fruit fall off the plant - they should be really mushy. Spread the seeds and mush from inside the fruit onto some compost and keep warm and moist. They should grow. I have 100's of seedlings every year from the fallen fruit. They manage to grow everywhere!
Reply:passion flowers are really easy to grow from seed..find a book..or read instructions from a packet in garden centres etc.. you could try layering which is simply taking a branch close to the floor scratching the bark/skin a little bury it in shallow soil and put a brick on top, should root in a couple of weeks at this time of year. then simply cut away from the parent plant and pot on,, hey presto you,v cloned your plant good luck
Reply:I asked a very similar question when I first started using Y!Answers. Below is the answer I chose as best. This may be more than you were looking for, but it's such good info... My passion flower vines have thrived ever since I started following this info. I now have four different varieties in my garden. I usually just take cutting rather than planting seeds because it's so simple to get them started. Starting from seeds is probably great if you want loads of them.

"I have this vine in my backyard here in Southern CA. I got mine from the fruit and grew up the seeds. It may takes a few months as it did in my case.

I did two things with the fruit simultaneously. I let one dry and and planted the dry and the fresh one together and let nature do its thing. I then separated the seedlings and set them up against an arbor. In one season I had full coverage and LOTS of butterflies.

Care of the passion vine is not complicated, but sometimes it can be challenging. Prune the dead stalks to the ground after the frost has killed them. Remove unwanted sprouts that may pop up at unsuspected places. If fertilizer is applied, use a light hand. Excess fertilizer will encourage lush green leaves at the expense of flowers.

The Passiflora family is easy to culture:

Passion fruit vines like full sun except during those very hot summer days, if possible provide some partial shade. The vine is a fast grower and can get out of hand, so if possible plant it next to a chain link fence or on a trellis.

Passion fruit vines grow in many soil types but make sure that the plant gets excellent drainage. If you want to keep the vines flowering almost continuously, regular water is necessary. The vines are shallow-rooted, and will benefit from a thick layer of organic mulch.

Passiflora vines are vigorous growers and require regular fertilizing. Stay away from just using a 20-20-20 liquid food. This may promote good growth but possibly too much green and not enough flower. Use a fertilizer with a ratio more along the lines of a 2-1-3.

As for edibility, I have not tried them. I have had friends that did, and said they range from bitter to sweet. I did find some sources that said they are safe in moderation if no pesticides have been used on them.

I think its a great vine and I really like out, but the hordes of butterflies do a number to the leaves in the summer."

Reply:In my experience you will have better results if you raise new plants from cutting than seed. You want to take about 3-4in of growing tip, leave only 2 or 3 leaves on and dip in rooting compound. Place in a pot of a mixture of free draining soil based compost mixed with vermiculite. They should root in 2-3 weeks.
Reply:Yes you should be able to grow new plants from seeds. You will need to keep the planted seeds somewhere warm like a conservatory or greenhouse until they are a few inches high. In spring you can plant them outdoors

If you plant flowers to attract hummingbirds, what kind do you plant and how soon do you plant them?

I have wisteria blue, gladiolus, astilbe, phlox, lilly of the valley, bleeding heart, hollyhock, red hot poker, lupine, canterbury bells, columbine, larkspur and snapdragon.

Good choices. They like bright flowers... especially red, ...but they also like purple, white, orange, pink and blue. They like flowers with trumpet, tubular shapes.

    Bee Balm

    Red Columbine

    Delphinium and Hollyhock

    Butterfly Bush

    Catawba Rhododendron

    Rose of Sharon

    Trumpet Vine and Trumpet Honeysuckle

    Cardinal Vine

    Lantana and Fuchsia

    Silk Tree

Here's a whole page of the hummingbirds favorite flowers, shrubs %26amp; trees, vines %26amp; bulbs; Hummingbirds are attracted to flower colors and nectar, not fragrance:

Aside from the colorful nectar filled flowers, make certain that there is always fresh water available for drinking as well as for bathing. They need sunnny areas and they especially need shady areas to perch as well as to build their nests.

Willows and Eucalyptus trees provide nesting materials along with bits of leaves, spider webs, moss, and lichens to build their tiny nests.

    Good Luck! Hope this helps.
Reply:Rose of Sharon is also an excellent choice.
Reply:Red Beebalm is what the hummingbirds really go for in my flower bed. I get some really great viewing as they will feed for a long time. These are by far their favourites and I have many of the same plants you do.

I'm in western Canada and I never plant anything until the end of May or beginning of June when the likelihood of snow is gone. We'd had snow in May and June before and I've lost some plants that way. I sometimes start plants from seeds and usually do that sometime in April indoors and then transplant later.

Reply:Harold the humming birds are attracted to my Night Blooming Jasmine!! I was amazed to see the dozens and dozens of them surrounding the plant. I took a branch from the plant with several flowers on it, held it out to them, and they came right up to it in my hand. it was so great to see. Take care- Jen
Reply:The hummingbirds go crazy for the monarda in my garden but i agree with the other answers that red flowers of most kind of flowers draw them but i also think a feeder helps keep them around also. Hope this helps.
