Wallpaper border matching to paint?

I just painted my laundry room a light olive/lime green color. I'm putting a border along the middle of the wall, and the border wallpaper color is exactly the same as the paint color, with some light blue flowers and light olive/lime green leaves. My friend told me that the border should be darker than the paint color. Is she right. I was surprised to get an identical match on the paint and the wallpaper border.

It really depends on the look that you are going for. You picked the color for the laundry room because you obviously like it. As far as the border...it is typically a little lighter or darker then the actual wall color. You said the border has some light blue flowers on it. It doesn't sound like the design you chose is super bold or colorful which to me sounds like you were subconsciously going for something soft and subtle. I am sure it looks great. Additionally, the matching paper and paint will not break up the wall as much as a contrasting border. This will result in the room looking bigger. Most laundry rooms are not super spacious so why make it look smaller then it is.
Reply:Well, very good eye! Yes the border should be different either lighter or darker. You don't want the same color, because at that rate you can just paint over it and save yourself the time. Good luck with your laundry room!
Reply:I think you should stick with the border you bought if you like it. There really are no hard and fast rules anymore in the decorating world. If it makes you happy, it's your laundry room!
