How long does the flower have to soak in blue water for it to turn blue?

Normally overnight if you want to have that carnation type look too it. maybe longer if you want it to turn completely blue.

I don't soak the flowers in blue water. I put water with food colouring in a vase and within 24 hours or so the stems have soaked up the colour and the blossoms have turned blue.
