What should I wear to the symphony?

I'm going with a friend to the symphony next Saturday night. I don't know a thing about it except that it's in Denver. What should I wear? I have a dress that I've worn to a couple of dances. It has a black lining that comes a few inches above my knees, and over that the whole dress has a sheer black layer that comes down to my shins. The bottom hem is trimmed with a light blue ribbon and there are light blue flowers adn rhinestones sewn on from the hip across to mid thigh. It has spaghetti straps and isn't too low cut. I'm sorry if I spent too much time describing it, but I want to be sure it's acceptable, because I can't afford to go out and buy a new dress. If I wear this one, how should I accesorize, makeup, etc?

a plain black dress might work a lil better but this sounds fine





just keep the accesories to a minimun and make up lik you usually do for a night out...with the parents

Reply:Maybe wear a pair of tights or hose black or tan will work for this kind of outfit, go with high heels, and do what the one girl said go light on the makeup, but just enough people can tell you are wearing it, you do not want to look like a trashy person. good luck and hope all goes well.

Reply:It sounds appropriate. I'm assuming it's not super flashy or shiny. If it has spaghetti straps, you might want to bring some kind of jacket or wrap to wear over it, just in case everyone around you is dressed more conservative than that. Just don't go in a bright orange summer dress. ;)

Reply:The dress sounds beautiful -- but just to err on the conservative side, take a black shawl or wrap to cover your shoulders just while walking outside. (You can remove it as soon as your coats are taken or you are ushered inside.)



Since the dress is (seemingly) intricate in its detail, I would let THAT be the main focus, and accessorize sparingly. Light blue, sterling silver, or black jewelry. (No chin-length chandelier earrings or chunky necklaces.) Feel free to add a couple bracelets and rings, though.



I'm no expert on make-up, however -- I would go dark on the eye shadow and liner, leave the lips a somewhat natural color, and go easy on the blush. Foundation and cover-up is a must, and use powders (before you put on your dress!) in case the theatre is warm. You don't want to look oily or sweaty. You're going for classy, elegant. Less is more. Again, let the dress and your eyes be the focus tonight.

Reply:Wear something that is comfortable. Going to a Symphony Concert is really not the time to get overdressed. Wear something that is simple, and that you feel comfortable with. Remember, that you are going to be sitting for quite a a long time. Go and listen to great music ,and enjoy.
