I have a few agapanthus plants, also known as Lily of the Nile. A long tube-like stem grew from one of the plants, and it had a big, round ball of little lavender-blue blossoms. The flowers are drying up and falling off, but firm green pods remain. Will the plant flower again? Or do the pods contain seeds which will fall off, resulting in self seeding, or reseeding? (Don't know what it's called). Should I cut off the remainder of the flowering ball?
What happens to the blooms on my agapanthus plant?
The remaining flower stalk will begin to dry off and there will be seeds left in the clusters. They don't really re-seed in the sense that you will have a ton of new seedlings next year. You can, however, harvest the seeds from the cluster and sow the seeds yourself if you like. This is easy to do. As the cluster dries, open one of the seed pods. When you see that the pod is dry and the seed is formed and dry, cut the stalk and harvest the seeds. Store in a cool, dry place for about a week or two to allow the seeds to dry completely. After this time, place them in a paper bag in a cool, dry place and sow in the early part of the spring.
If you are not interested in saving the seeds, cut the stalk off as far down as you can when all the blooms are gone. That stalk will no longer bloom. These plants generally have one flush of blooms and each stalk only blooms once. You may get an occasional stalk here and there but they generally bloom in one flush.
Good luck! :)
Reply:The answer to this question is, this plant will bloom again but first the main plant will die after the first set of flower dies, and then with the long stem it will blossom into a giant plant.Do not do anything to the plant until this processes. the little pods is little plants itself, you will have to replant this plant into a bigger flower pot or replant the little pods once they blossom.I hope this will help you.
