I'm allergic to most real flowers except for roses...but i dont realyl want roses in my wedding. Our colors are royal blue and silver. Would it be ok to use fake flowers and then just donate them to the church after the wedding? (except for the bouquets of course) I'm sure the girls will want to keep theirs and I want to keep mine...
Are fake flowers tacky?
No fake flowers are not tacky. As long as you use silk flowers you will look spectactular. I'm using silk flowers in my wedding and they look amazing. :) Keep in mind, it's your wedding so if you think they look tacky, don't use them. But if YOU think they look beautiful then do it. It's your day, not everyone else's. :)
Reply:I do think that fake flowers might look tacky, why not carry a white bouquet with silver accents (real blue fowers are hard to find) And will look especially cheesy if fake. But I just attended a blue and silver wedding with candelabras in the center of the table with lit candels for the centerpeice. Why dont you try and alternative to flowers for the centerpeices? Glass bowls with colored blue water and silver candels floating, or large candels with those colored glass flat marbels as accents, and there are so many other things besides flowers you could use! Get creative!
Reply:Fake flowers are not necessarily tacky but the key is to get nice quality silk ones instead of the cheap-o plastic ones.
Reply:I think that would be perfectly acceptable, especially given the fact that you plan to donate to the church. No one will notice whether or not your bouquet is real, and the fact that you'll get to keep it forever will make it even more special.
Reply:I do think fake flowers are tacky, I dont care how "real" they "look", I know they are fake and to me, thats not the point of a flower. However, some good points have been made about
1) people with allergies
2) people who are into keepsakes and want to keep their bouquet as it was, not dried
There are also fake flowers that are NOT trying to look like real flowers- using paper and other materials- and actually some of these are quite unique and worth looking into.
Reply:I don't think it's tacky. I feel your allergy pain. I'm allergic to mold %26amp; pollen, (which is NOT a good thing when you live in Oklahoma) dust, some cats, most soaps, deordants, perfume, body sprays, strawberries, cherries, penicillin, amoxinillin (another antibotic) and anything with nickel in it. I am going to use fake flowers because of the cost, and I don't see much point in spending a lot of money on something that's going to die the next day. I even told my fiance if he gets me flowers for our anniversary or V-day, or any other day to get fake ones.
Reply:Not tacky at all. Good luck with your marriage, and try not to make this guy hate every day of the rest of hid life, O.K?
Reply:My cousin arranges flowers and she made my bouquets and my boutonnieres for me. She advised silk flowers because they were easier for her to work with, they look great, and I could do basically whatever I wanted. So I took her with me to Michales and we picked out all sorts of different flowers in different colors. My girls mostly carried white and yellow roses, while I carried a dangling bouquet with yellow tiger lillies, white and yellow roses, white smaller flowers, and ivy accents. She did a beautiful job, and it matches a color of my office in my house, so I have it as a table display now.
Reply:dont use the cheap plastic ones you can get a craft stores, use silk ones. I have seen it done and its fine. I am actually using real flowers for the bouquets and boutineers, but fake ones for decorations just to cut down on cost.
Reply:No they are not depending on how well they are put together. Check out your local florist that can provide you with bouquets and designs that seem so real that only if you tell others they will know. Where are you located? I am in Florida and my florist is very cheap for the quality she is offering. I will provided you with her information if you are interested.
Reply:have you looked at good silks? they are beautiful and its very difficult to differentiate between fresh and silk!
you can find beautiful silks at michael's or joann's or many other craft shops, as well as you will find all the things you need to make your own bouquets which by the way is quite easy to do!
so go have a look at all the silks out there - i think you will be pleasantly surprised! good luck and happy wedding!
Reply:If the flowers look real it is ok. I had fake flowers at my wedding to save money and no one knew they weren't real except the wedding party. You couldn't tell in the pictures either.
Reply:yes
Reply:Not at all...just get silk ones...they look real...
Reply:I think it's fine to use silk flowers but definitely not plastic ones. They are tacky. Good luck with your wedding :)
Reply:As long as they aren't cheap and overly fake looking, it is fine. Many people use fake flowers.
Reply:oh heck no!! i'm using silks. i got some from afloral.com that are extremely realistic looking.
nobody can tell unless they get right up on them.
you can always put a few drops of fragrance oil on them scented like a bouquet and you will have scent w/o pollen
Reply:Actually...I am using artificial flowers for everything but my bouquets! It's cheaper and will last forever! You could, as you said, donate them to the church...that's a great idea:) Just make sure you find some that are good quality...you don't want to go to the dollar store, or even a craft store (I think their's are cheap looking as well).

Reply:Not they look really real exotically silk ones
Reply:I was told by my photographer that silk flowers photograph better than real ones if that helps? Just make sure that you get the nicer ones from Michaels or AC Moore, don't cheap out and get them from the Dollar Tree.

Reply:fake flowers are pretty and cheaper. and you can make the arrangements early.
Reply:I haven't found any that don't look tacky. I think online there must be something....I found 1 website where they looked good, but they were double the cost of real ones. Try http://www.porcelainroses.com/ I love this site!!
Reply:Fake flowers are not tacky if they are done with quality silk flowers. I had silk flowers for my wedding because some of them I wanted to keep as a memento, so why not. People will not know the difference anyways.
Reply:I'm almost sorry that I didn't use silk myself..it would have been wonderfull to have that kind of keep sake...
...my bouquet was bundle of long stemed asian and calla lillies . the callas were white but the asian were all in the colors of fall-golden yellow, rust orange, deep garnet red, with mini cat tails for touches of brown...I saved the ribbon wrapped around the stems so I've been thinking of re-creating the bouquet in silk flowers...I have a display table in our bedroom under our wedding day portrait with our album %26amp; cake topper (under a glass dome),inscribed cake knife %26amp; server, and monogramed champagne flutes on display...to add my 'bridal' bouquet to it would be cool, it think.....
...and yeah, the display may be a bit hokey but I'm sentimental and my hubby loves our wedding 'shrine', besides when either one get annoyed with each other we tell the annoyed one "Go tell it to the Shrine" (he started that) and it gets us both laughing......use your silk flowers and enjoy them, Hon.....
Reply:No, we purchased the silk ones and they look just as good and won't die the next day. I plan to keep mine and put them in my curio and my bridesmaids expressed the same thing that they wanted theirs to keep after the wedding so we decided on the silk flowers.
Reply:I'm doing silk flowers a lot people say it's tacky but I really want to keep my bouquet and my mother and I had a great time making them. We also took some test pictures and they photograph wonderfully. Not to mention making 6 bouquets and some background arrangements only cost about $150 where as I was looking at $1,300 at the florist for what I wanted.
I say go for it, I love the way they look and you can keep it forever. If I ever have a daughter it may be something she would want someday. Sorry it won't let me post the photobucket links : ( If you go to photobucket and in the search bar put Cassiemarie00 it will let you view my albums and you can see the flowers.
Reply:I had silk flowers in my wedding in the 80's, but silk flowers were totally cool back then. Now, I wouldn't even dream of doing fake. But, if you have alergies, then I guess you need to use silk.
Reply:unfortunately yes they are tacky
