What kind of plants / luck did you have?
Flowers.....just wondering, since I love herbal flowers, and it is fun to find things in the kitchen closet that will grow ~ like nigella seeds which are used in Middle Eastern pastry....

Have you ever planted blue poppy seeds, the kind used for breads and pastries?
Poppy seed used in pastry is Papaver somiferum, same plant that gives you heroin. The seed in the grocery spice rack are viable and produce a variety of colors. Although illegal to grow and frowned on by the DEA, it's tough for them when you can also buy seed at Walmart. RScott
Reply:they grow like weeds. they reseed themselves quite effectively, and they germinate easily. i tend a garden where i have to keep them in check so they don't crowd out the other plants. this garden had been composted for years, and the soil is quite nice, thoroughly mulched, sunny. so these are obviously good conditions for their success, if your garden is the same.
Reply:Around 20 years ago I worked on a farm in Denmark, we grew around 3 Ha of blue poppies for bread topping then. They are very easy to grow, but I don't know how the laws in the USA work so you may not be allowed to grow them as they still contain a VERY small amount of opiate.
Reply:I tried growing blue Poppies (Himalayan Poppies - Meconopsis Grandis). Very complicated:needed weeks in the fridge (cold stratification) then supposed to be removed as they germinate IN THE FRIDGE. Very fiddly and impossible to remove germinated plants before they died (timing was essential). I gave up last year but as I love them so much I will try again next year.
Reply:No, try sowing and see.
