Anyone use silk AND real flowers for your wedding? How did it look? Did it help cut cost? My colors are blue/silver, so I was thinking white roses and lilies and filling in with blue silk flowers..what do you think?
Save $ on flowers? Silk vs Real?
Go with silk... I have been through 2 weddings with 2 daughters.. The first one insisted on real flowers %26amp; for just the wedding party, I paid $790.00.. This last wedding we went with silk flowers from Michael's.. I must say they were absolutely beautiful. To the point of the grooms 2 grandmothers thought they were real %26amp; one put her flower in water to keep it %26amp; the other put it in the refrigerator.. For the silk flowers I paid $247.00 total to do the whole wedding %26amp; then we put them all together..
BTW... About every 2 or 3 weeks, Michael's has their flowers on sale for half off.
Reply:I am doing silk and real flowers at my wedding, we will be having real flowers on the gazebo where we are getting married and real flowers on the head table, my bouquet will also be real. My bridesmaids and my centerpieces will all be silk, along with that we are also using beautiful silk flower napkin rings and little chair bows for along the aisle that are silks. Its hard with certain flowers, but if you talk to a florist they may be able to point you in the right direction. It was hard for me to find great silks because I am doing peonies and cymbidium orchids, But my aunt is a wholesaler that does a lot of business in china and she got me beautiful silks and we've seen them with real flowers- you really cant tell too much of a difference.
Reply:If you are looking to save money in this area of your wedding, go with all silk. If you get a professional florist or someone who really knows what they're doing, you can get all the flowers you need for much less than real flowers. Even though real, fresh flowers are beautiful, in the end it won't matter if they aren't real. The silk will be really beautiful too. However, whatever you do, don't mix the two. That would be a serious mistake.
Reply:i personally don't think silks are worth it. I live in nyc and i went to michaels and the really good silk flowers are NOT cheap so i wouldn't be saving money. What i'm doing is going to supermarkets or flower shops in the city and buying the bouquets already made that sell for $10-$15 dollars and making bouquets out of them and they will come out beautifully and extremely cheap. If the silk would be cheaper I would have gone with the silks but i'm not saving money and it people could say whatever they want but i could definetely tell the difference from real and fake flowers especially in wedding pictures.
Reply:In my experience with shopping around, I actually found real flowers to be less expensive. High quality silks are in the ballpark of exotic fresh flowers as far as price goes. Of course, you can buy inexpensive silks at Walmart of the dollar store cheaper than fresh but Michael's, Joann's, etc have the more expensive silks.
I'm not a big fan of silk flowers but I have seen nice ones that can easily pass off as real but those are few and far between, and you don't save any money on them.
Reply:To me, real flowers are a HUGE waste of money. You spend thousands of dollars, for something that you have for a day or 2, then you try to preserve them, and they never look as good as the day of your wedding.
Go with silk. Get a professional florist to put the bouquets together, and you'll love it! You'll be able to look at your flowers 30 years from now, and they will still look as good as the day you got married.
Good luck, and Congratulations!!!
Reply:I'm doing a mix of flowers. the fresh flower center peices come included with the venue. They're just simple bowls of flowers. I would have made them fake if they hadn't come in the package
I have already orderes the flowers for the bouquet.

I payed about 25 cents a flower which after buying the wire to keep it togather and the ribbon to tie around the bottom, it cost me about $5 a bouquet verses the $45 or more i would have spent on each one if they were real.
they weren't the best quality but when they're all bunched up it looks good and in the pictures it will be hard to tell.
I'm also making the pew decorations but have no ideas yet.
The bouteniers and my bouquet are going to be real.. I would suggest you do the same (they are the most important).
and the bonus to fake flowers is that you don't have to worry about them the week of your wedding.. mine will be done months in advance. and they will always stay pritty! Good Luck.
Reply:tacky.. you can NOT mix fake and real. you can on the other hand do all bouquets fake OR real and the centerpieces opposite of that. BUT i highly recommend not to mix them. Have you thought of doing your own wedding flowers? My soon t be mother in law ois doing mine. We got a quote at a florist for 2,500 and that was ONLY for everyones flowers and ONE table at the recpetion. But since we are doing our own it will only be around 600 for everything.. Buy books and look.. but do not mix them please.
Reply:Honestly, I think silk flowers are tacky. If you use in season flowers and arrange them yourself it will be cheaper.

will help you a great deal.
Good luck!
Reply:I think with a really great realistic silk flower is will save money, you dont ahve to worry about timing for delivery, and you have something as a keepsake after!
Reply:Yes we did and it works out just fine, save as much as you can for you life together and this is wishing you the very best
Reply:I don't know , I think you have to go with one or the other. I don't think mixing them would work putting them together.
